A ripe peach with an ugly bruise,
a pair of stinky tennis shoes,
a day-old ham-and-cheese on rye,
a swimsuit that I left to dry,
a pencil that glows in the dark,
some bubble gum found in the park,
a paper bag with cookie crumbs,
an old kazoo that barely hums,
a Spelling test that I almost failed,
a letter I should have mailed
and one more thing, I must confess,
a note from teacher, Clean This Mess!!!
Read this poem and answer the following:
1. Name five things that are in this desk. Then write the words that the poet uses to describe these things that you choose.
2. What words help you to visualize what is in this desk?
3. What do you smell, hear, taste, and feel as you read the poem?

A discritive word for tennis shoes is sticky.A discritive word for peach is ripe and ugly,day-old,barely. The five things are tennis shoes,ham-cheese sandwich,a paper bag with cookie crumbs,an kazoo, and a pencil that glows. The old kazoo tells me that the kazoo was in the boy’s desk and got squashed by the books. I smell sticky tennis shoes.I hear the old kazoo. I taste the sandwich.I feel the gum that the boy found in the park.

I visualize that the boy’s desk is very dirty. It helps me to remember how my desk was. I visualize the ripe peach with the bruise and me eating it.

The five things are a peach, pencil, tennis shoes, ham and cheese, and a kazoo. The words that describe the things are ripe, stinky, day-old, dry, and old. The words that help me visualize are a ripe peach with an ugly bruise.
